Zohran Mamdani Promises a 'New Era' for New York City in Maiden Address

Outgoing Mayor Eric Adams highlighted his team's public safety record, citing historically low numbers of homicides and shootings in 2025, with 301 homicides reported.
As his work begins, Mamdani and his wife will move from their Astoria apartment to the historic mayoral residence. The previous occupant offered a quirky warning about a reputed resident spirit in the home, which reportedly only haunts those who fail to “do right by the city.”
Mamdani concluded his speech with a simple statement: “The work has only just begun.”
