We have witnessed over the years while conservative evangelical congregations converted the Savior we grew up with into exactly the opposite of our understanding of him. Essentially, they turned a figure of affection into a symbol of hostility who approves specifically the brutality that he criticized in the Gospel; this transformation occurred at a slower pace, across decades rather than months, yet it remains unsettling through similar means, a confusing personal impact for countless people.
A Damaging Christianity Establishes Itself
Hence I shall explain the Jesus from my childhood, because theoretically the Savior is the core of Christian religion, and since the quickly increasing segment among Americans could have minimal awareness about him because they identify as atheists or agnostics or nones. The obvious and clear fact that Christ of the gospels requests a type of radical love concentrated on the poor has consistently rendered the Christian faith something of a scandalous religion: appealing to the masses, but owing to its intrinsic extremism requiring to be restrained. In the 1950s it was contained through watering down – Protestantism was so dominant that it essentially baptized the status quo.
A Battle for the Finest of Us
So I have been inspired to witness the determined opposition to Trump develop in this past year.
