The Two Fatalities Identified in Brown University Shooting as Law Enforcement Continue Hunt for Gunman.
Both young individuals who lost their lives in the weekend's mass shooting at Brown University were being remembered Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their assailant continued following the discharge by local law enforcement of the sole person of interest in the case.
Tributes for Ella Cook
The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was called “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which offered condolences for her at a ceremony on Sunday.
Cook was vice-president of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, as the club stated. The White House press secretary also shared words of sorrow publicly, stating: “Words cannot express. Remembering her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”
MukhammadAziz Umurzokov
The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the renowned school, his family confirmed.
The victim's identification was verified by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a memorial statement.
What Happened
Nine other people were wounded in the weekend shooting in the engineering department of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.
Officials stated late Sunday that a 24-year-man arrested in a police operation at a hotel about 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was being released.
“We have a murderer out there,” declared Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.
He added, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last approximately one day.”
Public Fear
Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, noted: “This will probably generate renewed concern for our community”.
The shooter began shooting inside a classroom in the engineering facility on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a police source informed the news agency.
Police that entered the lodging found a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the suspect was taken into custody, as was reported.
The Wounded Victims
Of the nine hurt, one student was released from the hospital, stated the university president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in critical but stable condition, and one remained in critical care, officials reported on Sunday.
