The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
