The network's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often marked by bleakness, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family go about their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running layer of irony. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
