As he approaches his six-year milestone at the helm, Mikel Arteta has admitted that his future at Arsenal is inextricably linked to achieving success.

Reflecting on: The Arteta Era

Arteta was appointed on 20 December 2019 and managed to steer the team to an cup win within months. However, that first major trophy stands as his lone significant piece of silverware since succeeding Unai Emery.

“Absolutely,” he stated in response to a query about staying beyond 2027. “But it’s about today. And numerous factors have to happen in the next few months as well to deserve that opportunity.”

This weekend sees the anniversary with a match versus Everton, the very same club Arsenal met the day after his appointment was announced.

League Position and Pressure

Given that chasing Manchester City taking on West Ham on Saturday afternoon, Arsenal risk losing first place in the Premier League for the first time. This potential shift notwithstanding Arteta managing a squad that has endured over 100 injuries from the beginning of last season.

During my tenure, I’ve seen just players with a level of attention, willingness to improve and dedicate themselves to the team.”

Squad Setbacks

Arsenal heads into the weekend fixture dealing with an additional absence. Defender Ben White has been declared unavailable with a hamstring injury that is likely to sideline him for a few weeks.

Confidence in the Path

Despite the fitness woes and the immense scrutiny, Arteta feels the club's “priorities and messaging” are profoundly distinct from when he first arrived.

The manager referenced the record-breaking achievements as proof they are close. “You look at the performances, all the historical marks we surpassed... We still haven't been able to do that [win trophies]. But that tells you the caliber we've reached.”

He finished by saying, “This is a standard that the Premier League has never experienced in the past. And our aim is to achieve even higher goals. And if we do that, I think we are on the correct trajectory to winning.”
