The English Team to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground

The English squad will embark on their Euro 2028 journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, assuming they achieve the expected passage for a championship taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an England men’s match since eight years ago, when Turkey were defeated 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is highly likely to host the England side for their inaugural game on a Saturday in June 2028.

The team are set to play their last two group stage games at Wembley, but, if they top their group, their round of 16 match would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Finishing second would mean commencing the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Opening and Demonstration

The event was launched at an ceremony in a London landmark on the previous evening. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the organizing bodies were heckled as they approached the location by about 50 protesters, who urged Israel’s national side to be removed from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were raised with phrases reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Fixture List

The first match of the European Championship will be staged at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a fixture that will feature the Dragons if they secure a place.

Wembley Stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the championship match, which will be staged on July 9, 2028 with a kick-off time at 5:00 PM.

It is anticipated that an earlier start, which will also be adopted for UEFA Champions League finals from next season, will appeal to families and help engage a wider spectrum of audiences.

Host Nations

The Irish team are due to play their initial fixture at the Aviva Stadium and the Scottish team would do the same at the national stadium of Scotland.

The national sides of all four hosts will take part in the qualification process; two automatic spots will be held in reserve for any that miss out on the tournament through the qualification path.

Venues and Knockout Stage

Aston Villa’s stadium and The North London arena complete the nine tournament locations. Every stadium will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarter-finals held at the national stadium of each host.

The qualifying draw will be conducted in Belfast, which was excluded as a tournament location last year when it emerged the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.

Official Statement

“The event will be a championship for the followers and a festival of everything we cherish about the football – its passion and capacity to bring people together.”

Over 3 million passes, a record for a men’s European Championship, are anticipated to be released to supporters.
