The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Has an Idea of How His Sci-Fi Series Will End... At the Moment.
Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”
With the first season of the acclaimed series reaching its finale—and Season 2 officially in the works—the writers' room opened up about the fan response and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.
About the Tremendous Audience Reaction
Anyone might to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to steer clear of all that.
“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”
Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.
“We don't try to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by audience chatter.”
“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.
The Big Question: Has the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?
Given that the writers are not listening by public opinion, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… with some caveats.
“We've developed some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to discard a good idea for a superior concept. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
Alternatively, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.
“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”
Alternatively, one could always use the legendary finales?
“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.
Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
