Shoaib Bashir Earns Surprise Selection in English Test Series Team
The English team has opted for a 12-man squad just two days ahead of the first Ashes Test, with the 22-year-old spinner earning a unexpected place.
Bashir's selection indicates that the tourists will wait until the day of the initial match to decide whether Perth Stadium pitch suit four seamers or the addition of a spinner.
Both pace bowlers are included in the selected group, indicating there are no concerns about their pace bowlerās condition.
The other seamers round out the bowling group, with Carse expected to miss out if the spinner makes the final team.
Pitch Factors Favor Seamers
Brendon McCullum had been expected to choose an all-seam attack on a venue that has staged five past matches.
In those games, the majority of dismissals have been taken by pace bowling, with only a small number to spin bowling.
Among these 40 wickets, Australiaās Nathan Lyon has claimed the bulk, while overseas slow bowlers together have just a handful.
At a venue known for its pace and bounce, and whose curator, Isaac McDonald, pledged that these traits are āpermanent and not going to change,ā a side loaded with seamers is still the probable choice.
Spin Options Weighed
Previously there was rumors that the all-rounder could be parachuted into the team to provide some slow bowling while additionally strengthening the batting lineup.
But McCullum has chosen to stick with Bashir, having stated previously that he would be his first-choice spinner for the series.
Earlier, Lyon described Bashir as ādecent,ā adding that āin my eyes, the experienced spinner is still the English best spinner.ā
āIt is a massive role, and it can be a significant test for bowlers who lack experience in the past in Australian pitches,ā Lyon remarked of slow bowling in matches Down Under.
āIām not going to let my secrets out so they perform and perform well out here.ā
