Democratic lawmakers Denounce Trump After He States They Should Face Death Penalty

Democratic officials demonstrated outrage after Donald Trump charged a contingent of Democratic legislators of being "betrayers" and stated they should be detained and punished "by death" following their release of a controversial video.

The Message That Sparked the Controversy

The clip, released on Tuesday, features six Democratic congress members who formerly worked in armed forces or security positions.

"Similar to us, you all made an vow to defend and uphold this national charter," the representatives affirmed in the brief video. "At present, the dangers to our democratic foundation are not only from foreign nations, but from domestically. Our regulations are explicit, you can refuse improper directives, you can decline improper directives, you should refuse unlawful commands. No one has to execute commands that contravene the statutes or our founding principles."

Donald Trump's Furious Reply

The clip seemed to provoke a angry reply from the previous commander-in-chief.

On Thursday morning, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another publication, he stated: "This is really bad, and Harmful to our Nation. Their words cannot be permitted to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional message, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also shared a declaration that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Officials React

Following Trump's comments on Thursday, Top Democrats published a joint statement condemning the comments.

"Violent politics has no role in the United States," they declared. "Elected officials who appeared in the video all acted our nation with great patriotism and excellence. We unequivocally denounce Donald Trump's disgusting and risky death threats against congressional representatives, and call on GOP representatives to forcefully do the same."

The opposition officials also mentioned that they had been in contact with security officials "to ensure the protection of these representatives and their families."

"Donald Trump must immediately take down these unhinged online messages and retract his dangerous rhetoric before he causes harm," the declaration stated.

Officials' Defiant Answer

The officials who participated in the video also published a declaration.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and defense specialists who love this nation and took an oath to defend and uphold the constitution of the United States," they said. "That oath is permanent, and we intend to keep it. No threat, pressure, or call for violence will prevent us from that important obligation."

"The significant point is that the president views it subject to penalty by execution for us to reiterate the legal requirements," they added. "Military personnel should recognize that we have their protection as they fulfill their oath to the constitution and responsibility to adhere to only lawful orders. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our obligation."

They added: "The entire nation must come together and denounce the president's demands for our death and political violence. This is a moment for ethical certainty."

Additional Political Reactions

The Senate Democratic leader also denounced Trump's remarks and shared on digital platforms: "We must be absolutely clear: the former president is requesting the execution of public representatives."

He added: "This represents an outright THREAT. All senators, all representatives, every American – regardless of party – should censure this without delay and without qualification."

The Conservative official defended Trump's allegation that the Democrats had engaged in "rebellion", characterizing the video as "wildly inappropriate", stating: "This constitutes very risky, you have leading members of the government telling military personnel to ignore directives, I think that represents without precedent in US history."

The Republican leader also reportedly told media outlets that in what he read of Trump's posts, Trump was "defining the crime of rebellion" but that "legal experts have to parse the language and establish all that."

White House Reaction

During a executive branch meeting on that day, when asked by a journalist, "Does the president want to put to death congressional representatives?", the White House press secretary responded: "Certainly not."

"We should understand about what the former president is addressing," the representative declared. "There are current representatives of the American legislature who worked together to orchestrate a video message to individuals of the US military, to active duty service members urging them to ignore the president's proper directives."

She said: "The sanctity of our armed forces depends on the hierarchy, and if that structure is broken, it can cause fatalities, it can result in chaos, and that is exactly what these congressional representatives ... are essentially encouraging."
