Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:

  • Each team includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Community Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Community Input

All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
