Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be raised about his future following a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach stated.

“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory naturally but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with Club Management

When asked to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, Slot explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so we'll see.”

Familiar Issues and Player Response

Slot highlighted known shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period such as this with performances so bad.”

He stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”

“Our aim is to get this team back to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the world.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
