Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for a series of unforgettable images favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

His passing follows shortly after he debuted his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he began working on pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world says farewell to a true visionary whose influence on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
